Time up for Kewell at Anfield

Time up for Kewell at Anfield

Harry Kewell's patchy Liverpool career is over with the injury-plagued Australian set to be moved on after this weekend's final round.

Manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed Kewell is on his way out.

Kewell's five-year stint at the Reds has reaped just 139 appearances and 16 goals. He has not appeared since the club's 2-1 FA Cup exit to Championship side Barnsley on February 16.

It is understood the 29-year-old Socceroo, who shifted to Anfield from Leeds in 2003, will not be afforded a farewell appearance against Tottenham.

"We have tried to come to an agreement with the player and his agent, but that has not been possible,'' Benitez said.

"Kewell will leave the club at the end of his contract.''

Kewell's horror run of injuries since joining Liverpool includes serious groin, knee, thigh, ankle and foot complaints.

Fulham, who tried to sign Kewell in January, is one club already being linked to Kewell. Tottenham has also made a play for Kewell in the past.

He is not the only familiar face likely to be packing his bags at Anfield with wholesale changes tipped for Rafa Benitez's side.

Lanky striker Peter Crouch is believed to be considering a deal with Portsmouth, while Aston Villa is also in the frame for the England frontman.
