Wheelhouse re-signs

Wheelhouse commits to Jets

20/10/2008 7:18 PM

Newcastle has re-signed foundation player Jobe Wheelhouse to a new two-year deal that will tie him to the Jets until the end of the 2010/11 Hyundai A-League season.

Wheelhouse has only made 30 appearances for Newcastle since its inception in the Hyundai A-League three years ago due to various ankle injuries.

However, the 23-year-old has had a recent change in fortune, featuring in seven of the Jets' first eight matches this season and Newcastle chief executive John Tsatsimas was rapt to have locked away the midfielder/defender.

"It's certainly fantastic to have Jobe on board for another two years with the club," Tsatsimas said.

"We are delighted as a club to have him as part of our playing staff for some time."

"He is a wonderful talent and it is great to have a local product staying on and representing his hometown into the future."

"It is vitally important that Newcastle footballers have the opportunity to come through and represent the city at the highest level."

"Jobe is a perfect example of a local player doing just that and he is someone that junior footballers in the region can relate to and take inspiration from."

Wheelhouse will next be in action when the Jets take on arch enemies Central Coast on Friday night at Bluetongue Stadium.
