Colourful golfer John Daly on Friday confirmed his appearance at next month's Australian PGA Championship at Coolum - the scene of his infamous meltdown in 2002.
Six years ago, the two-time major winner was disqualified for throwing his putter into the lake and failing to sign his scorecard after a second-round 78. He was also fined $5600 and ordered to issue a written apology to a tour official he abused.
Daly, who is currently playing in the Hong Kong Open before flying to Melbourne for the Masters, has not been back to Coolum since.
"Given I am coming to Australia for the Masters I was very keen to head back to Queensland and play the PGA Championship again," Daly said in a statement on Friday.
"As a former US PGA Champion I have a real allegiance to the PGA. I have many close friends in Australia and look forward to seeing them as well as a whole bunch of my loyal Australian fans in Coolum."
Daly, who was recently arrested and spent one night in jail after being found drunk outside a restaurant in North Carolina, is expected to be one of the main drawcards on the Sunshine Coast.
He will join Australians Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott, Peter Lonard, Stuart Appleby and Robert Allenby, as well as internationals Tim Clark and Paul Goydos, at the December 4-7 tournament.
PGA of Australia's chief executive officer Max Garkse said Daly's arrival in Australia was a massive coup.
"John contacted the PGA after confirming he was playing the Australian Masters to see whether he could play at Coolum again," Garkse said.
"He explained that he was keen to make amends for his last departure and accordingly we are pleased to invite him back."
"John is a talented golfer and we know the Queensland crowds will welcome him back and will want to see him do well."
