CRV backs jumps racing

12/05/2009 6:32 PM

Country Racing Victoria is committed to the retention of jumps racing, despite the fact that there have been five horse fatalities this season.

CRV submitted a proposal to Racing Victoria Limited on Tuesday and is hopeful that jumps racing will continue in the state.

CRV CEO Scott Whiteman believes the loss of jumps racing to Victoria would have a detrimental effect on the racing industry and local communities alike.

"We are committed to the continuation of jumping races," Whiteman said.

"CRV encourages RVL and the industry as a whole to pursue all avenues to ensure jumping racing remains a viable aspect of thoroughbred racing in this state."

"CRV feels strongly that the jumps review process conducted last year and implemented in the 2009 season must be followed."

"We are concerned about any fatalities in horse racing, including jumps, and will always support the industry in taking the necessary steps to make racing safer."

Racing Victoria Limited will make an announcement on Wednesday on the future of jumps racing in the state.
