Eighto ain't no Lonhro

The unbeaten record of Lonhro's younger brother, Eighto, ended on Friday when he was defeated in a Class One handicap in country Victoria.

Eighto, sent out a $1.70 favourite on the Victorian tote on the back of his emphatic six-length victory on debut in Geelong last month and no doubt his breeding, found the heavy going at Seymour too tough in the 1407m event and finished third.

After settling in the second half of the field, Eighto, ridden by Melbourne Cup-winning hoop Michael Rodd, made his run wide around the bend.

The firmest going, however, was closer to the inside fence which did not suit Eighto, who faded in the run to the line after appearing a winning chance at the top of the straight.

The race was won by three-year-old filly Thrillionaire.

A rising four-year-old, Eighto, who has endured problems in his joints, has raced only twice due to problems in his joints.

His unsoundness saw him gelded earlier in his career despite his impeccable breeding.

Lonhro was one of the pin-up gallopers of the Australasian turf earlier this decade.

A winner of nine Group One races, Lonhro collected $5.79 million in prizemoney.
