Injury worry for Hussler

Injury worry for Hussler

22/06/2009 12:42 PM

Weekend Hussler's hopes of resurrecting his career in the Melbourne spring have been dealt a blow with the four-year-old battling joint soreness.

Trainer Ross McDonald said Weekend Hussler, who swept all before him in a sensational three-year-old career, would be examined be vets on Monday, where more will be known about the injury.

McDonald said the injury was similar to the one which ended Weekend Hussler's campaign in the autumn, where he ricked a joint.

It is expects any decision on Weekend Hussler's spring prospects will not be made until later in the week. McDonald had marked out a Cox Plate campaign for the champion.

Weekend Hussler was rated as potentially one of Australia's racing greats when he won 12 of his first 15 starts before losing form ahead of the Caulfield Cup (2400m) last spring.

His autumn campaign was abandoned after just two runs, after running fourth in the Lightning Stakes and a disappointing fifth in the Australia Stakes.
