Ollie warming Whobe seat for Rodd

Ollie warming Whobe seat for Rodd

Damien Oliver will merely be keeping the saddle warm for regular jockey Michael Rodd when he rides Whobegotyou at Flemington on Saturday.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh said Rodd, currently suspended, will retain the ride on Whobegotyou when the gelding heads north to Sydney later this month.

Whobegotyou, last spring's star three-year-old, resumes racing this Saturday when he tackles older horses in the Listed Melbourne Food and Wine Plate (1400m).

Kavanagh had been planning on running Whobegotyou in the Australian Guineas but a hoof abscess which delayed his return to the track saw those plans shelved.

Kavanagh said this Saturday's assignment was an 'unsuitable race over an unsuitable distance' for Whobegotyou, whose best form has been beyond 1600m.

"It's not all that important if he wins but it would be exciting for us if he did as it'd show he's on the right track," he said.

Kavanagh said Whobegotyou would run in the Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) and the George Ryder Stakes (1500m) in the lead-up to his main mission this campaign - the G1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick on April 18.
