Russeting wins Stakes

Russeting wins Winter Stakes

20/06/2009 7:00 PM

Four-year-old mare Russeting has taken out the Group 1 Winter Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

The Bart Cummings-trained horse claimed the $320,000 first prize and, in doing so, immediately repaid the stable which had bought her for $300,000 earlier this month.

Russeting finished three-quarters of a length ahead of second-placed Prima Nova and Subtle Cove who finished a further length behind in third.

The trio trumped red-hot favourite Forensics who finished the race in sixth.

Russeting exploded with 400 metres left in the race to leave her opponents for dead and clinch victory.

Prima Nova fought valiantly down the home straight to be runner-up to Russeting while Subtle Cove showed grit to claim third spot.
