Snowden wins Guineas

Trainer Peter Snowden will have two very smart three-year-olds to attack the autumn classics after Caymans won the G2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) on Saturday.
Despite again racing erratically, Caymans, ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, was too strong for his rivals, bounding away in the closing stages to win handsomely.
Marveen, one of two fillies in the field, finished second after attaining a rails run in the straight for Luke Nolen, while Lucky Thunder came third after being disappointed for a run at the 200.
Snowden, who last week prepared the promising Drumbeats to win at Flemington, said Caymans would be set for races such as the Randwick Guineas (1600m) and Rosehill Guineas (2000m) in the autumn.
Caymans raced ungenerously at his previous start when fourth on Derby day and again misbehaved, this time ducking in abruptly shortly at the 150m mark.
"When I gave him a crack with the whip he ducked in sharply. Luckily there was no one inside me," McEvoy told TVN.
"He's still learning all about it. He's a big raw horse and got a big frame to build into."
"All throughout his prep everyone has seen him do a few things wrong and today he's done a few things wrong still and still won nicely."
"Peter's sure he's going to be more of an autumn horse as well, plenty to look forward to with him and Drumbeats."
Lucky Thunder, ridden by Dwayne Dunn, was the unluckiest runner in the race. Dunn was forced to check Lucky Thunder off heels after being squeezed out of a gap at a crucial stage in the race.
