Target wins again

Takeover Target does it again

13/12/2008 5:00 PM

Champion sprinter Takeover Target completed his Perth campaign in grand fashion on Saturday when he strolled to victory in the $125,000 G3 Scahill Stakes (1400m) at Ascot.

Partnered by Jay Ford, the nine-year-old bounced straight to the lead in the five-horse field and was never threatened in the run, steamrolling his rivals by about four lengths.

Western Australian galloper Tarzi edged out Royal Lott for second while Hartley's Dream grabbed fourth.

Takeover Target had the race in his keeping the moment he found the lead soon after jumping.

He was challenged briefly by Scenic Shot, which drew level with him around the turn, but upon straightening shrugged off that horse with consummate ease.

Despite stepping up to 1400m, a distance at which he was beaten last January, Takeover Target did not weaken at all in the straight.

The win, Takeover Target's 19th, took the Joe Janiak-trained gelding's career earnings past the $5.5 million mark.

Only nine Australian-trained horses have won more prizemoney than Takeover Target.
