Tesbury Jack wins Monash Stakes

Tesbury Jack has won the 1100m Sir John Monash Stakes at Caufield on Saturday afternoon.

With Darren Gauci on board, the $2.70 favourite was barely tested in the easy victory ahead of Red Arrow ($18) and Lucky Diva ($7.50).

Winning trainer Julie Scott said that the Armidale gelding had been brought along slowly after returning from injury.

"He's been in work since April 6. He much stronger since he's come back, when he came back he weighed 642 kilos but he probably doesn't have that much improvement in him because he's got a lot more muscle on him than fat," she said.

"He'll go to the Bletchingly Stakes and I'd love to have a go at the Liston with him but the owners aren't so keen so we'll have to wait and see."
