Dragons trio charged

St George Illawarra's seemingly unstoppable run to the minor premiership ran into a potential roadblock on Monday when three key players were charged by the NRL's match review committee.
Prop Justin Poore is staring at two to three weeks on the sideline after being hit with a grade two dangerous throw charge for his lifting tackle on Penrith's Shane Elford early in the Dragons' 25-6 win on Friday night.
He will be outed for a fortnight if he accepts an early guilty plea or three weeks if he fights the charge at the judiciary and loses.
Fellow forward Matt Prior and in-form utility Beau Scott were handed grade one dangerous throw charges after their combined tackle a minute into the second half.
Both have carryover points from previous charges but will only a miss a week if they enter guilty pleas.
Elford was taken to hospital following Poore's tackle, with fears he may have suffered bleeding behind the eye after landing heavily on his head.
He was later cleared of any serious injury and former Penrith hardman Mark Geyer believes Poore should not have to serve any time.
"I don't think he deserves anything," Geyer told the Nine Network.
"That to me is a rugby league tackle."
"It was a great tackle. If Wayne Bennett as a coach didn't see that from his front rower, he'd be filthy."
"I don't think a player should be rubbed out for two weeks for doing an aggressive tackle."
The Dragons have won their last seven games to clear out to a four-point lead at the head of the table.
They meet Canberra at Canberra Stadium on Saturday night.
