Fa'alogo off to UK

Fa'alogo makes UK shift

15/05/2009 5:05 AM

World Cup winner David Fa'alogo has become the second Kiwis international in the space of 24 hours to announce a move to Super League after agreeing to a four-year contract with Huddersfield.

The 28-year-old second-rower will be released from the final year of his NRL contract with South Sydney and join the Giants from next season.

Centre Sia Soliola, who played alongside Fa'alogo in the Kiwis' 38-10 defeat by Australia last Friday, signed a three-year deal with St Helens on Wednesday.

Fa'alogo has taken advantage of a clause in his contract which allowed him to explore the option of playing in the UK and will link up with former St George Illawarra coach Nathan Brown at the Galpharm Stadium.

"David informed us by the deadline of 31 March 2009 that he intended to move to the UK Super League, as per the clause in his playing contract," said Souths chief executive Shane Richardson.

"We wish Dave and his wife Mel the best of luck next year and we look forward to a big second half to this season from him as we charge towards to the finals."

Auckland-born Fa'alogo, who has spent the past seven seasons with Souths, was in the Kiwis team that beat the Kangaroos 34-20 in the World Cup final in Brisbane in November.
