Troubled Canberra Raiders halfback Todd Carney and team-mate Bronx Goodwin have been stood down by the club indefinitely following an alleged incident in a Canberra nightclub on Sunday night.
Details surrounding the nature of the incident, which is now a police matter, are yet to emerge but Raiders CEO Don Furner said the club was united in the decision to sideline the pair.
"Both Bronx Goodwin and Todd Carney have been stood down by the club until further notice," Furner confirmed.
"The incident in question is being looked at by the police, and we will wait until we receive the outcome of that before we do anything further."
Furner added: "The board, players and coaching staff are all behind the decision."
"We spoke to all parties this morning and we agreed this was the best thing we could do."
"We decided the decision to stand them both down was best for both them and the club, rather than to have it hanging over their heads while they're still playing."
Carney, who has been in scintillating form for the resurgent Raiders in recent weeks, is no stranger to trouble having been sidelined by the Raiders for much of 2007 following his involvement in a police chase.
Despite his chequered off-field past the 22-year-old was re-signed by the Raiders on a four-year deal in March.
