He may have only picked up a solitary Championship point, but Mark Webber was relatively pleased with his performance at the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday night.
Starting from seventh place on the grid, Webber overcame a crash on the ninth lap with Heikki Kovalainen to finish an action packed Grand Prix in ninth position, before being promoted a spot in the stewards room after the race.
Webber was overtaken by Timo Glock on the final lap, but stewards issued the Toyota driver with a 25 second penalty for ignoring waving yellow flags.
While an eighth placed finish was not what Webber was looking for at the start of the weekend, he was happy to take something out of the race.
"The first few laps were always going to be very tricky on the greasy parts of the track," Webber said.
"The first stint went pretty well although I lost time behind Sebastian Bourdais as he was running a longer strategy. Then, I got hit by Heikki Kovalainen at the Bus Stop which cost me eight or nine seconds and exposed our short strategy even more."
"I knew Timo might appear somewhere after he pitted for inters but I thought the fastest way to the flag for me was not to pit. Amazingly it turned out to be incredibly tight between us, and Timo passed me on the run to the Bus Stop where there was a yellow flag period for Kimi Raikkonen's stricken car."
"Every driver at some stage of his career has been at the receiving end of this, so I'll take this today; it's only one point but it's good to have another one on the board."
Team boss Christian Horner said the decision to keep Webber on dry tyres at the end of the race worked out to the advantage of the Australian.
"In the final laps we gambled to split the cars and left Mark on dry tyres and put David (team-mate David Coulthard) on intermediates," Horner said.
"Today's result doesn't represent the hard work that the team is putting in at the moment, but I'm sure our luck will change soon."
