Australian Formula One driver Mark Webber has been seriously injured after he collided with a car while riding his bike on the Tasmanian Peninsula.
Webber was competing in his own charity event, the Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge, a 250km event consisting of mountain bike riding, kayaking and trekking, when he collided head-on with a Nissan X-trail near Port Arthur.
He has suspected multiple leg fractures and has been rushed to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Inspector Glen Wooley explained to Fox Sports News that the exact details of the accident are not fully known.
"Where the accident occured the road is quite narrow ... as to the cause or who's at fault that is unknown at this stage," he said.
As to the condition of Webber, it seems his injuries are not life-threatning.
"I understand that (Webber) is satisfactory, he suffered multiple fractures to a leg and has been transported to Royal Hobart Hospital."
Webber is reported to be in a stable condition but he could miss up to at least six weeks.
