Carter's record-breaker

New All Blacks Test record points scorer Dan Carter said after New Zealand's 19-6 win over England at Twickenham on Sunday that he was sure in time he would look back with the pride on his achievement.
For the moment the win, and the retention of the Hillary Shield, had been the most important thing for the side which now faces a tough challenge against France at Marseille next weekend to retain its unbeaten record on tour.
Carter, who missed two easy penalty goals during the match, landed 14 points from a conversion of halfback Jimmy Cowan's try and four penalty goals, has now scored 980 points in Tests and it was Andrew Mehrtens' 967 that he broke when landing his first penalty goal of the game.
Carter told SkySport that the side was 'reasonably happy' with the win and while it had felt comfortable throughout the match, it had been the defensive effort that set up the victory.
"The defensive effort was outstanding and set us up for the win," he said.
"It [defence] is an aspect of our game where we want to set the standard."
"That will be put to the test against France where the game would 'make or break' the tour, Carter said.
Defence coach Wayne Smith said he had been delighted with the side's defensive play, especially in the second half when twice promising England opportunities were snuffed out by the All Blacks.
"England played really well and put a lot of attack together," he said.
Smith expected no let-up next weekend in France.
"They're going to be into us, it will be very physical," he said.
