Alex Rodriguez smashed a game-winning two-run homer in the 11th inning to give the New York Yankees a 6-4 win over the Minnesota Twins.
After Mark Teixeira led off with a walk, Rodriguez hit a long drive off Craig Breslow (1-2) for his second homer of the season and enjoyed a jubilant lap of the bases before being mobbed by team-mates at the plate.
Teixeira tied a career-high with four hits as well as four RBIs for the Yankees, who have now won four games on the bounce.
For the Twins Justin Morneau hit his third homer in two games and Joe Mauer also connected for the second straight day.
Elsewhere BJ Upton homered for the second consecutive day and Matt Garza pitched six effective innings for Tampa Bay as the Rays beat the Cleveland Indians 4-2.
Upton put the Rays ahead 1-0 with his second home run of the season off Carl Pavano in the fourth, while Gabe Gross and Akinori Iwamura pulled off a double steal in the fifth to give Tampa Bay at least one stolen base in 18 straight games - the longest stretch in the AL since the Yankees did it 19 times in a row in 1914.
Both scored on Jason Bartlett's single to make it 3-0.
Jose Bautista drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Chicago White Sox 2-1. Rookie right-hander Robert Ray bagged his first major league win while allowing one unearned run and three hits in a career-high eight innings.
Rich Hill picked up his first victory in more than a year for the Orioles as Baltimore beat the Kansas City Royals 3-2.
Hill, who had been out with a strained left elbow, limited the Royals to two runs on seven hits - six of them singles - and two runs in over five innings of ball.
The Detroit Tigers roughed up the Oakland Athletics for the second straight night, beating them 9-1 this time as Ryan Rayburn hit a three-run homer.
The Texas Rangers won 5-3 against the Los Angeles Angels, who had John Lackey ejected after just two pitches as he hit Texas leadoff batter Ian Kinsler.
And finally, in the day's late game Jason Bay clubbed his 11th homer of the season as the Boston Red Sox beat the Seattle Mariners 5-3.
