Charismatic French lock Sebastien Chabal has vowed to make a lasting impression against the Wallabies on Saturday night when he makes his long-awaited return from the rugby wilderness.
Chabal, who became the face of the 2007 World Cup, has been named at lock for Saturday's clash against the Wallabies in Sydney in what will be his first Test appearance under new coach Marc Lievremont.
And the man affectionately known to rugby fans as 'The Caveman' is desperate to make the most of his second coming.
"I was waiting (since) the end of the World Cup to come back into the French squad so now it's done," Chabal said.
"Now I have to do the job on the pitch on Saturday and then we'll see."
Chabal has previously voiced his preference to play at No.8, the position he predominantly fills for English club Sale.
But the French giant is confident he can still have an impact from the second row.
"I will still play my natural game but it's true to play at lock with the scrum I use quite a lot of energy in the scrum more than if I'm playing at No.8," Chabal said.
"It's a bit more difficult for me to be explosive and to use my quality but during the World Cup I went quite well in the second row so that's fine."
Lievremont said of Chabal: "Potentially for us he's the kind of lock you can find in the southern hemisphere so it's interesting for us to see him playing here against the same kind of locks."
"He said he wanted to play No.8 but today it seems like he is really very pleased to start in the second row."
"We are really very pleased about his commitment in the squad and in the team since he arrived here."
Chabal's commitment to the French cause is best illustrated by his repeated refusals to talk about himself when pressed by the Australian media.
Asked why he was so reticent to discuss his cult-hero status at home and abroad, he insisted: "I don't like to speak about me, we speak about rugby, about the team, about the squad but there is no point to speak just about me."
