Second seed Jelena Jankovic has been dumped out of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow in the quarterfinals by unseeded Russian Alisa Kleybanova 6-4 6-3.

The win sets up a last-four clash with Olga Govortsova of Belarus, who beat Russian Vera Dushevina 6-3 6-0.

Eighth seed Francesca Schiavone of Italy saw off another home player, Maria Kirilenko, 6-3 6-2, with Ukraine's Alona Bondarenko completing the semi-final line-up by beating Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria 6-3 6-3. Qualifier Pironkova caused a stir on Thursday by knocking out seventh seed Vera Zvonareva.

Meanwhile, fourth seed Daniela Hantuchova was knocked out of the BGL Luxembourg Open by unseeded Israeli Shahar Peer.

The Slovakian succumbed in straight sets 6-2 7-6 (7-4) to Peer, who will now take on sixth seed Sabine Lisicki after the world No.28 from Germany put out Patty Schnyder of Switzerland 6-4 6-2.

Fifth seed Yanina Wickmayer will be the favourite in the other semi-final after booking her place with a 7-6 (7-1) 4-6 6-1 victory over fellow Belgian Kirsten Flipkens.

Wickmayer will now take on Swiss Timea Bacsinszky who overcame Katerina Srebotnik of Slovenia 6-7 (3-7) 6-1 6-4.
